Lessons of “The Beautiful Game”
Lessons of “The Beautiful Game”
There is nothing else on Earth that unites people quite like soccer, the world’s most popular sport. Soccer also holds a special place in the heart of our founder, Sam Johnson, who excelled at the game as a youth, earned a soccer scholarship to Mercer University, and went on to play professionally in the Guinean and Egyptian leagues before retiring to focus fully on My Vision.
Sam has dedicated countless hours to coaching and organizing clinics for children, with a particular focus on girls—who are often denied the same freedoms as boys, whether in education or in sports.
My Vision for Refugees also invests in soccer for the broader community, creating youth teams in Nzérékoré under the name F.C. Vision. With jerseys, soccer balls, and equipment provided by generous donors, these teams foster teamwork, discipline, and unity among young people while building community pride.
